A Prisoner’s Rage Leads To Repentance

by The Gideons International on June 22, 2012

Francisco Gomez started using drugs at ten years of age. He got into a life of crime and on two different occasions tried to kill his entire family. He was sent to prison four times and eventually received a 73-year sentence.

Gideons visited his prison and made a presentation to the inmates. When Francisco saw what the Gideons were doing, he became enraged. He rushed forward and violently attacked the Gideons, hitting them and cursing them.

The guards overpowered him and took him back to his cell. He was filled with anger as he reflected on what had happened. He ripped off his jacket and threw it against the wall.

As he did, he saw a book fall out of the pocket. He picked up the book and discovered it was a New Testament. He couldn’t believe it— one of the Gideons must have shoved the New Testament into his pocket during the attack.

But for some reason, he suddenly felt drawn to read the book. As he read, the Word of God began to speak to his heart. Within a few hours, Francisco repented of his sins and cried out for the Lord to take over his life.

Not only did God set Francisco free spiritually, but after Francisco’s mother pleaded with a judge for Francisco’s release, he also was set free physically. Today, Francisco is a pastor in Seville, serving the Lord and preaching the Gospel.

The Word of God is certainly the sword that the Spirit weilds. (Eph 6:17) We need the persistence and courage to make it available. Just like that Gideon did.

Gods amazing Love for us is so incredible it makes you hold your breath at times, and he can pluck anyone out of our troubles He choses to be a son or daughter, even in a prison or hell of our own making. Praise Him.
